Rose Hill Middle School student wins science olympiad in Puerto Rico over winter break

Naman Mishra Science Awards

Some like to rest and relax during winter break after the first few months of the school year. Others, like Naman Mishra, eighth grader at Rose Hill Middle School, fly several hours to a science competition and win the whole thing! That is exactly what Naman did when he competed at the International Environmental Science Olympiad (IESO) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, December 27-31. While there, he won the prize of overall champion in the middle school division.

According to its website, the organization “International Academic Competitions” presented the inaugural IESO for science players and their families. IESO is open to all students who have qualified for the National Science Bee National Championships (in the USA), the Canadian, European, and Asian Championships of the International Science Bee, or any student who passes the IESO Qualifying Exam. IESO features three age divisions: High School (students in 9th-12th grade in December 2024), Middle School (students in 6th-8th grade in December 2024), and Elementary School (students in 3rd-5th grade in December 2024).

IESO features a mix of competitions, field trips, family activities, ceremonies and more. It is specifically designed to be an event for the whole family, with optional events for parents, non-competing siblings, and other relatives who are taking part in the Family and Friends Program – Extended Option.
