Leggo my LEGO – LWSD students compete at FIRST LEGO League Western Washington State Finals, advance to global championships

First Lego League state champs

Only two teams get to move onto the global championship of the FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Challenge. One of those teams is made up of students from Lake Washington School District (LWSD) after they won at the Western Washington State Finals in February. Sanchit Phadke (Kamiakin Middle School), Yagna Patel and Brandon Banning (Rose Hill Middle School), and Aarush Goyal (Inglewood Middle School) are headed to the championships in Houston, Texas, April 17-20. They go by Team 52060-Brickineers.

FLL teams build LEGO-based robots to complete set missions, but they must also take part in an innovation project which involves research and outreach in the community.

Two other teams made up of Kamiakin Middle School students (unless otherwise noted) also competed at the Western Washington State Finals:

  • Team SM2OLD - Leo Scott, Maya Shimokura-Lee, Sidney Risk, Mac Chen
  • Team Cr8ively Cool - Paarth Nathani, Aadit Singh, Virti Shah, Arjun Nathani, Louis Yoo, Anika Kulkarni (Redmond Elementary School)
