A swarm of bees – LWSD student takes home top prizes at national bee competition

A seventh grader from Rose Hill Middle School created quite a buzz at the 2024 International Academic Competitions (IAC) Middle and Elementary School National Championships May 23-27, 2024, in Orlando, Fla. Naman Mishra competed in multiple competitions, or bees, while there for the Memorial Day weekend and did extremely well. Naman won first place in both the National Geography Bee and the National Academic Bee, while getting second place in the National Science Bee. 

IAC is an organization that oversees a portfolio of academic competitions for students in over 50 countries. Below is a list of the events Naman placed in and a brief description of each event, according to the IAC website:

  • National Geography Bee – First Place
    • A quiz competition for individual students, testing knowledge of the political, human, cultural, and physical geography of all parts of the world. 
  • National Academic Bee – First Place 
    • A quiz competition for individual students, testing knowledge of all academic subjects at a grade-appropriate level.
  • National Science Bee – Second Place
    • A quiz competition for individual students, testing knowledge of all aspects of science at a grade-appropriate level.
