Health

Lake Washington School District is committed to the health and wellness of our students. Each school has health room staff and a health specialist available to provide a range of services. Our goal is for all students to be successful in school.

Is your child too sick for school? Read these Guidelines

Health Room

The Health Room is staffed by a trained Health Room Assistant. How can the Assistant help your student?

The Health Room Assistant can help your student with:

  • Basic First-Aid (Bandages and ice packs).
  • Taking your child's temperature.
  • Headaches (we can provide rest in a quiet environment, water and an ice pack).
  • Calling home if your child is too sick to stay in school.
  • Administering life-saving and daily medications that have a current Medication Authorization Form on file at school, signed by your child's physician and a parent/legal guardian, and approved by our School Health Specialist.
  • Support for diabetic care and the management of chronic health conditions, as set forth by a Physician and School Health Specialist's approved Individual Health Care Plan.

The Health Room cannot provide:

  • Medication or cough drops, unless authorized by a physician on a district-provided form and brought to school by a parent/legal guardian. If you have questions, please ask the Health Room Assistant for details regarding Medication Authorization Forms.
  • Extended supervision. If your child is too sick to stay in school, you will be called to pick up your student promptly.
  • Any clinic services. We cannot diagnose illnesses or treat injuries.

Wait, isn't there a nurse in the Health Room?

The short answer is No. Keturah Romer, RN (Tue,Thu) and Mirna Soliman (Mon, Fri), are our School Health Specialists.  The School Health Specialist provides case management services for students with life-threatening conditions, supports our school with immunization compliance, and collaborates with students, families and school staff to promote health and safety.  The School Health Specialist shares time between Rose Hill Middle School and Stella Schola, so she is typically not in our health room. The School Health Specialist does not diagnose illnesses or treat injuries.

If your child has been diagnosed with a serious health condition, it is vital that you contact Nurse Romer or Nurse Soliman. You can also call and leave a message at 425-936-2460. The nurse will work with you to develop a school health plan for your child.
